Darn! John Faletoese was waived by the Buffalo Bills . This was a good chance for the UC-Davis alum to make a dent in his NFL rookie year. I hope he’ll get picked up soon.

Brad Staton of NFL Sports Channel reports on Hawaii Prepartory Academy’s (Waimea, HI) Max Unger ongoing mini-camp:
Recently drafted Max Unger has been working at left guard at mini-camp, but will need to stand out in order to displace Wahle.Indeed, the Seahawks may simply be introducing Unger to the kind of roles he may have to master for the new season as a primary backup at any position in the interior.
Expected starter: Mike Wahle
Primary back-up: Max Unger

Maui News’ Brad Sherman has the latest on USC linebacker and Baldwin High School (Maui, HI) graduate, Kaluka Maiava.
Kaluka Maiava had been told what to expect at his first workouts with an NFL team. He had heard what a big deal the Cleveland Browns were to their fans. Now he has first-hand experience with both.
Maiava, a 2005 Baldwin High School graduate and second-team Pac-10 linebacker in his senior season at Southern California, was selected by the Browns in the fourth round of April’s NFL draft.
Since then, he’s taken part in a rookie minicamp and a pair of voluntary full-squad camps.
”It’s a lot more to learn in a little bit of time,” Maiava said Saturday. ”There’s a lot of attention to detail. You have to pay attention to everything. I knew that coming into it, and now it’s my responsibility.”
Maiava is one of 19 rookies listed on the Browns roster.
”It’s the NFL, man, it’s a whole new world for me,” he said. ”I’m a rookie, and everything is brand new to me.”
On Saturday, Maiava took part in an event for fans at Crocker Park, a shopping area in Westlake, Ohio.
”It’s always good to get out and see people, and the Cleveland Browns are a real big thing to people here,” he said. ”It’s good to see the kids, and to see everyone, how pumped they are for next year.”

Thought this might be of interest to all those ex-Warriors/former Islanders/Polynesians NFL fans and for those contemplating schools that they should attend to play sports in Hawai’i or on the mainland. Some schools are more dominant than others and it’s a real good study of how strong Hawai’i and the Pac-10 are in recruiting players. If you’re an alumni of any of these schools, you can click in the right column for your school’s football page. Please leave comments. This was a lot of work and I hope it’s worth it to all the readers of this blog. Imua!

NFL rosters should be up-to-date now to reflect what’s going on in the league as far as free-agency and team transactions. If anyone has other updates, let me know and I’ll add them on as soon as I can. Added today are Polynesian players: Tavita Thompson (NY Jets), John Faletoese (Buffalo Bills), Frank Summers (Pittsburgh Steelers), Marcus Mailei (Philadelphia Eagles), Naufahu Tahi (Minnesota Vikings) and Mike Tauiliili (Indianapolis Colts).
