Samoa Disaster Relief Effort

September 30, 2009

First off, Hawai’i Football Fanatics would like to give it’s condolences to those who lost loved ones in the recent disaster in Samoa. We offer our prayers to all who have friends and families in Samoa. Also, to those professional athletes which we cover here and abroad, a big aloha goes out to them as they continue to search for information for their loved ones.

If anyone would like to help in the disaster relief efforts, the American Red Cross Hawaii State Chapter is collecting donations to assist the victims of the Samoa islands tsunami. You can make online secure donations @ www.redcross.org.  Call 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or mail donations to the Hawaii State Chapter @ 4155 Diamond Head Road, Honolulu, HI 96816. Make sure to specify that your contribution go directly to the Samoan relief effort.

For those on the mainland, you can call the previous number or send your donation to the American Red Cross at P.O. Box 37243, Washington, D.C., 20013.

Let’s make an effort to support our Polynesian brothers and sisters by making a donation.

Mahalo nui loa!

HFF Monday Night Preview: Indianapolis Colts @ Miami Dolphins

September 21, 2009

Reminder tonight on Monday Night Football (ESPN). At Miami, former Hawaii Warrior, Davone Bess, is slowly blazing his own trail. Polynesian defensive product, Paul Soliai, will continues to impress for a backup nose tackle position behind Jason Ferguson. Bess looked great so far as he gains Chad Pennington’s trust.

Bess may have to face the Colts Polynesian trio of MLB Freddie Keiaho, FS Aaron Francisco (BYU & Kahuku High Alumnus) and DT Fili Moala. They are all contending for starter spots so this game will be important in their quest to move up the depth chart. Francisco who was recently released from the NFC Champions Arizona Cardinals, will hopefully get some playing time.

HFF Gametime Previews: NFL 1st Sunday of the Regular Season

    September 13, 2009

Just a quick preview for Hawai’i Football Fanatics fans to get the juices going for the NFL’s First Sunday of the regular season!:

Starting off the morning at 7am

Minnesota Vikings @ Cleveland Browns (KHON3)

Looks like Naufahu Tahi will be playing more as the running backs (Peterson & Taylor) will take turns pounding away for yardage during gametime. Newcomers/draftees David Veikune and Kaluka Maiava for the Browns have their duties cut out for them as they may see more playing time than usual as they compete for starting spots.

Minnesota Vikings Offense – #38 Naufahu Tahi

Cleveland Browns Defense – *#57 David Veikune & *#56 Kaluka Maiava

Denver Broncos @ Cincinnati Bengals (KGMB7)

This game may be one-sided as a bunch of islanders are playing for the Bengals and none for the Broncos.

Cincinnati Bengals – *#58 Rey Maualuga, #68 Jonathan Fanene, #94 Domata Peko & *#37 Fui Vakapuna

    Mid-morning game at 10am:

    Washington Redskins @ N.Y. Giants (KHON3)

This is another one-sided game and won’t be hard to choose as Hawai’i's favorite QB will be cheering for his team on the sidelines due to an injury. Mike Sellers has put in a strong performance throughout the pre-season on both special teams and backup duties.

    Washington Redskins – Offense
#5 QB Colt Brennan (University of Hawai’i)

#45 RB Mike Sellers (Walla Walla CC)

Sunday Night (afternoon) game at 2:15pm:

Chicago Bears @ Green Bay Packers (KHNL8)

GO BEARS! What more can you say about the Bears except they have some of the best islander lineups in the NFL! Don’t miss this game as it’ll be an interesting one at Lambeau Field.

    Chicago Bears – Offense

#57 C Olin Kreutz (University of Washington)

    Chicago Bears – Defense
#46 S Al Afalava (Oregon State University)
#59 LB Pisa Tinoisamoa (University of Hawai’i)

    Labor Day Weekend Time Off

    September 8, 2009

E kala mai to all Hawaii Football Fanatics Blog Fans. I took some time off this weekend to spend time with family and friends since returning to isles. Lots of college football action this weekend. Upsets galore! Yikes! and BYU beating Oklahoma was awesome! The only disappointment I had was with UH’s somewhat lackluster performance against Central Arkansas and Oregon’s loss to Boise State. On one side it was good for the WAC but bad since lots of Polynesians and islanders at Oregon.

I’ll be back on the “post wagon” this week and I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend.

    Mahalo!

    Adrian Klemm Joins SMU Staff

    September 1, 2009

Got wind from fellow F.B.I ( From the Big Island ) blogger, Damon Tucker, that former Hawai’i warrior, Adrian Klemmn , has joined June Jones at Southern Methodist University. He’s joining the SMU staff as the Offensive Line Coach.
